The low horizontal plate was designed as an alternative to the rosette, to perform a dual function.
First of all, an aesthetic function: being a sort of background, of projection of the handle, it makes the whole integrated whole, with strong signaling and connotation.
Secondly, a technical function: its extension behind the handle prevents you from touching the door and therefore avoids the risk of hitting and damaging it.

Both are equipped with a very sturdy return spring and horizontal stop position, in order to always return the handle to the correct position after use.
Tested according to the resistance test (DIN EN 1906 standard), they have exceeded 200,000 cycles, resulting in class 4, i.e. suitable for heavy use. In fact, the test was then extended up to 1,000,000 cycles, which were easily overcome.
